Inflammasomes are intracellular multiprotein complex in the innate immune system, the body's first line of defense against pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or host-derived cellular stress signals known as damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). Once activated, inflammasomes produce highly proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-18 and induce programed cell death called pyroptosis. Dysregulation of inflammasomes is associated with a vast number of autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
Unlike other inflammasome inhibitors which target to inhibit only the activation phase of inflammasome, Shaperon's GPCR19-P2X7R modulation yields multiple advantages over conventional approaches.
